VirtualSailboatShow: Ice Blink Producer, Greg Roscoe
At the 2006, 37th Annual United States Sailboat Show in Annapolis, MD, Greg Roscoe, producer of the sailing documentary, Ice Blink, is interviewed by TheSailingChannel’s President, Tory Salvia. Ice Blink is a remarkable documentary film about a conventional family of five, the Martins, living a very unconventional life afloat. In our exclusive interview with the film’s producer, Greg Roscoe, we learn how he followed the Martin story for many years, finally meeting them after they completed their arctic voyage and settled not far from Greg in Maine. For nearly twenty years, Dave and Jaja Martin cruised the world’s oceans, circumnavigating in a 25-foot boat while having their three children along the way. They are now living ashore following a four-year journey to Greenland, Iceland, and Norway in their 33-foot steel sloop, Driver. Greg tells us how he shaped the Martin’s digital video footage, added family archival photos, and shot new interviews with the couple and their children to create Ice Blink: A Family Navigating Life’s Ice-Clogged Waters. View TheSailingChannel’s Exclusive Video Preview of Ice Blink. If you like this preview you’ll love the 56 minute documentary available on DVD. Ice Blink has been selected for airing on US National Public TV. Sunsail/Paradise Found #6: The Baths
The Flanders family pays a visit to The Baths on Virgin Gorda’s southernmost tip. The Baths is the BVI’s most engaging natural geologic attraction. The Baths consists of building-size boulders that create a series of grottos and pools. Inside its passageways you can almost hear pirates plotting their next conquest. Perhaps you’ll even stumble upon their buried treasure. Moorings and anchorages are available, as well as slips in Virgin Gorda Yacht Harbor. Stay tuned for Episode 7, The Baths to Anegada. TheSailingChannel.Com brings Gary Jobson’s outstanding film about sailing the British Virgin Islands to video podcasting. Sunsail, the world’s largest sailing vacation company, wanted to showcase it’s British Virgin Islands fleet. So it ran a contest among its former charter customers. The winners, a family and two couples, would cruise free while staring in a promotional video produced and narrated by sailing legend Gary Jobson–not a bad deal! Tall Ship Prince William: Voyage of Understanding
TheSailingChannel presents a Tall Ships mini-documentary from our partner SailTV – Tall Ships Youth Trust Voyage of Understanding. On 12 July 2006, 48 student sailors concluded a 10-nation goodwill voyage aboard the Tall Ship Prince William in London, UK. Funded by the HSBC Education Trust, the goal of the voyage was to help young adults from diverse backgrounds to gain a better understanding of different cultures and religions while developing teamwork and communications skills. The Prince William is operated by the Tall Ships Youth Trust, a non-profit dedicated to the personal development of young people through the crewing of Tall Ships. The young crew, representing eight different nationalities, sailed the 60-metre square rigger some 800 nautical miles from Brixham, UK via France and Belgium, to a spectacular arrival up the Thames and under the famous London drawbridge. Read more about the voyage. Watch SailTV on TheSailingChannel.tv to see more racing and cruising videos, full screen on your PC, 24x7x365. Sunsail/Paradise Found #5: Nature’s Little Secrets
The Morrisons and Riglers visit Jost Van Dyke and take in some laid back BVI shopping and culture. “No shoes, no shirt, no problem” reads one inviting sign at a local shop. For the inquisitive visitor, the BVI lives up to its motto: Nature’s Little Secrets.” Early mariners from Venezuela were the first to visit the BVIs around the year 900AD. Chris Columbus came ashore on his second voyage in 1493. In the seventeenth century, Pirates found safe haven in the BVI’s many hidden coves. The Spanish and Dutch were the first Europeans to occupy the BVI followed by the British who exported sugar, molasses and rum. Today, the locals still fish and farm, but also participate in the new vacation economy. Stay tuned for Episode 6, The Baths.
