IJC report on Great Lakes Water Quality
The International Joint Commission (IJC) has issued its Thirteenth Biennial Report on Great Lakes Water Quality. They recommend that the governments of Canada and the United States create and apply an uncommonly strong Accountability Framework for Great Lakes restoration and protection under the Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement. Last October, the International Joint Commission of Canada and the United States recommended that both governments update the current Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement with goals, timelines, performance measures, and provisions for monitoring and reporting for greater accountability when it comes to the cleanup of the waters of the Great Lakes. Canadian Dragon boat team win 23 Gold
Canadian Dragon Boat teams have returned from the 8th world Dragon Boat Racing Championship (IDBF) in Australia with 23 out of 38 gold medals, and topped the medal totals. Canadian teams won 5 of 7 gold in the Premier Open Championships against 8 other countries, 16 gold out of 19 in the Senior & Grand Dragons IDBF Championships against Australia, Germany and the United States. The Junior Dragon Boat team won 2 golds. They were impressed by the sportmanship shown - the German team waved Canadian flags and Australian children put maple leaf tattoos on their foreheads. Canada had top medal totals in the three categories. Also, The IDBF has awarded Honorary membership to Paul Henderson of Canada for outstanding service to Dragon Boat sport. World Record by Human Powered Boat
Canadian Greg Kolodziejzyk set a new world record by pedaling his human-powered pedal boat 107.9 miles in 24 hours. His KidPower program encourages kids to live a healthier lifestyle by combining active living and healthy eating with achieving one’s dreams and goals.
