VirtualSailboatShow: Dutchman Sail Flaking System

TheSailingChannel interviews Dutchman Sail Flaking System inventor, Martin van Breems at the 2005 US Sailboat Show in Annapolis, MD. The Dutchman uses vertical control lines laced through fairleads fastened to the sail. Martin gives us a firsthand demonstration of how the Dutchman collects the mainsail on the boom with no need to secure the intermediate reef points. With lines led aft, you can operate the system entirely from the cockpit. Relatively inexpensive, the Dutchman works with both conventional and full-batten sails, and you can easily retrofit it to your existing main. Tall Ship Prince William: Voyage of Understanding
TheSailingChannel presents a Tall Ships mini-documentary from our partner SailTV – Tall Ships Youth Trust Voyage of Understanding. On 12 July 2006, 48 student sailors concluded a 10-nation goodwill voyage aboard the Tall Ship Prince William in London, UK. Funded by the HSBC Education Trust, the goal of the voyage was to help young adults from diverse backgrounds to gain a better understanding of different cultures and religions while developing teamwork and communications skills. The Prince William is operated by the Tall Ships Youth Trust, a non-profit dedicated to the personal development of young people through the crewing of Tall Ships. The young crew, representing eight different nationalities, sailed the 60-metre square rigger some 800 nautical miles from Brixham, UK via France and Belgium, to a spectacular arrival up the Thames and under the famous London drawbridge.
