Huntington, NY (PRWEB) February 13, 2012
Sportsideo, LLC (http://sportsideo.com) announced today that its unique fundraising platform, Sportsideos SportsQuest, has processed its first pledge payment to the Dr. Patrick J. Dineen Memorial Foundation (http://www.pjdineenfoundation.com/). The Dr. Patrick J. Dineen Foundation registered with Sportsideo on January 5, 2012, two days after Sportsideos Beta version launch. Supporters of the Dineen Foundation joined Sportsideo, picked the Dineen Foundation as their favorite sports organization, set personal milestones to contribute to the Foundation and invited sponsors to support their milestone by pledging money to the Foundation. Just 25 days after the Foundation registered, one of the Foundations supporters completed his milestone, and his sponsors pledges were processed by Sportsideo and paid to the Dineen Foundation.
“We are very pleased and very proud that Sportsideos SportsQuest has helped to accelerate the development goals of the Dr. Patrick J. Dineen Memorial Foundation, said Steve Vesce, Managing Director of Sportsideo. The Dineen Foundation is committed to helping children, and one of its great programs is to offer tuition scholarships to youth hockey players. It is remarkable to us that less than 30 days after we launched Sportsideos Beta version, a supporter of the Dineen Foundation completed his milestone, and the pledges made to this supporter by the supporters sponsors were processed and paid to the Dineen Foundation. Before we launched Sportsideo, we believed that Sportsideos SportsQuest would be very powerful tool and unique fundraising platform for Sports Foundations, Organizations, and Teams. We are really pleased that Sportsideos SportsQuest is realizing our vision and contributing so quickly and so easily to an organization such as the Dineen Foundation, Vesce concluded.
Patrick Dineen Jr., the Chairman of the Dineen Foundation commented After learning of the unique design and purpose of Sportsideo, it was a no-brainer to immediately get involved, and everyone in the Dr. Patrick J. Dineen Memorial Foundation family is thrilled to have done so. In todays technological world, Sportsideo is a pioneer in its craft that offers year-round fundraising capabilities through their website that transforms peoples everyday physical activities into raising money towards greater causes. To have received contributions in such a short amount of time shows the efficiency of Sportsideo and proves they are equally dedicated towards helping fellow athletes and improving the lives of others, which should never have a finish line.

Solo Voyager Rounds Cape Horn in Last Leg of Record-Breaking, 25,000-Mile Sail Around the Americas

Annapolis, Md. (PRWEB) January 10, 2012
Matt Rutherford, a 30-year-old Maryland resident, is set to round Cape Horn in the final leg of a 300-day odyssey circumnavigating North and South America in a 27-foot sailboat. When finished, Rutherford will be the first person to do the 25,000-mile voyage alone and without stopping. His motivation for the trip is to show people, particularly those with disabilities, that there are no limits to what can be accomplished in life, and raise money for Chesapeake Region Accessible Boating (CRAB), a nonprofit sailing program for people with disabilities based in Annapolis, Md.
In sailing terms, Rounding the Horn is the most difficult left-hand turn a sailor can make and taking that turn singlehandedly is nothing short of remarkable, said Gary Jobson, president of US SAILING, author of 17 sailing books and editor-at-large of Sailing World and Cruising World magazines. Matts journey in a 40-year old, 27-foot sailboat through treacherous, deep ocean waters, completely alone for 300 days, is one for the record books. He is truly proving that there are no limits to what a person can do.
While his trip has stayed on course, Rutherford and CRABs fundraising could use more wind in its sails. The nonprofit organization hopes to raise $ 250,000 $ 10 for each nautical mile which will go toward retrofitting CRABs current fleet of four sailboats, purchasing new handicap-accessible racing boats and modifying a fishing boat for wheelchair accessibility. Donations can be made online at http://www.crab-sailing.org or by calling 410-626-0273.
During the first leg of his trek, Rutherford broke a record by singlehandedly sailing the smallest boat in history through the Northwest Passage, which is a small water route from the Atlantic to the Pacific along the northern coast of Alaska.
Before even reaching the Northwest Passage, he dodged icebergs the size of office buildings, was hammered by severe storms, and suffered the loss of several pieces of failed equipment. His left turn through Cape Horn at the southernmost point of South America, notorious for its storms and heavy seas, is predicted to be bookended by gale storms one just before and after the turn. Then he faces several more rounds of dangerous winds before he reaches smooth sailing up the Atlantic.
Rutherford is accustomed to challenges. After a rocky childhood and string of school expulsions, he found salvation in a headmaster who helped him get on track. Inspired by a realization that life held limitless opportunity, Rutherford embarked on a series of journeys that took him across the world. Then, in his early 20s, he taught himself how to sail.
In the spring of 2010, shortly after returning from his second singlehanded transatlantic passage, Rutherford found CRAB. It was on this trip that Rutherford decided to start a sailing program for disabled people. When he learned CRAB was already fulfilling his dream, he began volunteering for the organization and, soon after, devised this fundraising voyage around the Americas. The 27-foot Albin Vega was donated and Rutherford raised funds to retrofit it for the 25,000-mile ocean voyage.
CRAB helps give all types of people with disabilities a child with autism, a paraplegic veteran, a disabled senior the opportunity to do something they may never have dreamed they could do, explained Don Backe, executive director and founder of CRAB.
Backe understands the concept of limits: he has been wheelchair-bound for several decades from a car accident. He added, We show people they dont have to be limited by a handicap. Our sailing programs provide an experience and new-found confidence that spills over into every aspect of their lives.

About CRAB
Chesapeake Region Accessible Boating (CRAB) is a nonprofit organization based in Annapolis, Maryland, that provides opportunities for people with physical and developmental challenges to experience boating on the Chesapeake Bay. Founded by Don Backe in 1991, CRAB maintains a fleet of Freedom Independence 20 sloops, which are designed specifically for use by mobility-challenged persons. Pier 33 To Debut New Models From Scout Boats At The 2012 Progressive Insurance Chicago Boat, Sports & RV Show

St. Joseph, Michigan (PRWEB) January 05, 2012
Pier 33 Marina has announced display plans for the upcoming 2012 Progressive Insurance Chicago Boat, Sports & RV Show, to be held Thursday thru Monday, January 12 thru 16 at McCormick Place in Chicago, Illinois.
Pier 33 is a full-service marina and boat dealership located in St. Joseph, Michigan. Pier 33s new boat brands include Chaparral, Pursuit and Scout. A main feature of Pier 33s Chicago Boat Show display will include an exciting array of Scout Boats.
Scout Boats were first shown by Pier 33 at the 2011 Chicago event and were very well-received by show visitors. Scout is an independent boat builder, located in Summerville, SC. This unique line of high-quality center consoles, runabouts and fishable cruisers is known throughout the boating world for innovation in design and engineering, as well as for efficient performance and an abundance of fishing features.
According to Scout Founder & CEO Steve Potts Timeless styling and painstaking perfection are fused into every model we create, in order to produce the most attractive, highest performing and fuel efficient boats possible.
Pier 33s Scout display will include the Chicago debut of Scouts 262 Abaco, powered by twin Yamaha outboards and featuring a cabin comfortable enough for family weekending, cockpit shelter provided by a stylish hardtop and plenty of open cockpit space for aggressive big-lake fishing. Another Pier 33 show entry will be the debut of the Scout 177 Dorado, part of Scouts new 177 series — four versatile, affordable skiff-like runabouts. Pier 33s full boat show line-up can be viewed at http://www.pier33.com/boatshows.
In addition to the impressive display of new boats and RVs, the 2012 Progressive Insurance Chicago Boat, Sports & RV Show will provide show-goers with a wide variety of entertaining extras, such as Rail Jam, Freds Shed, Paddlefest, Welcome to the Water and much more. An adjustment in this years show schedule, now to include Monday January 16 (Martin Luther King Jr. Day) will allow many families an extra free day from work and school to visit the boat show.
Were very excited to be back to the show with Scout Boats again this year said Pier 33s General Manager Tighe Curran and the start of the boat show is always a sure signal that the season isnt all that far away. Spring launch begins in less than 90 days.
The boat show is an ideal venue for boaters to shop, compare and commiserate with their boating neighbors. Whether youre a first-time boater or a seasoned cruiser, this show is a great place to gather information that could help you choose your next new or used boat says Curran.
Pier 33 is Michigans largest dealer for Scout and serves boaters from a wide region including Michigan, Indiana, Illinois and beyond. Many boat show visitors travel from surrounding states to enjoy this big, mid-winter boating event.
To keep boaters and show-goers informed on boat show specials, news, photos and videos, Pier 33 will be providing frequent updates before, during and after the boat show on http://www.facebook.com/pier33marina and Pier 33s Boat Show Blog.
